Control Union offers SMETA (Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit) audits, a method developed by the multi-stakeholder consultation initiative, Sedex. SMETA’s role is to align social audit standards and monitoring practices, ease the audit burden on suppliers by sharing reports, and encourage improvements in labor standards throughout the supply chain.

Control Union offers the SMETA audit (Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit), a method developed by Sedex, the multi-stakeholder consultancy initiative.
The role of SMETA is to align social audit standards with control practices in order to reduce the audit burden on suppliers by sharing reports and driving improvements in labor standards across the supply chain.
Requirements
You must be a SEDEX member in order to access the SMETA assessment methodology. Companies or organizations from all sectors may apply if they have five (5) or more workers on site and have been operating for at least three (3) months.
How do you benefit?
In the certification industry, various social audits are carried out, such as BSCI, WRAP, SA 8000 and ICTI. All of these social audits can be uploaded to SEDEX. It is up to each member to decide which audit best suits their purposes; however, SEDEX expects that by publicly providing SMETA best practices, companies will eventually establish a single international audit protocol.
2-pillar SMETA audits are governed by the standards included in the ETI Base Code. 4-pillar SMETA audits add more comprehensive requirements for environmental management as well as business practices. Reports can be completed through the SEDEX database, depending on your requirements. Eligible sites usually complete a self-assessment before audits begin. Ask for a pre-audit information pack when submitting your application.
