The Mexico Forest Protocol (PFM) is a verification program, which focuses on the accreditation of activities that increase carbon stocks in trees over time. It is a verification program for carbon enhancement projects that addresses eligibility, baseline, permanence, social and environmental safeguards, as well as measurement, reporting and verification requirements.
Mexico Forestry Protocol – PFM
The PFM provides eligibility rules and methods for calculating the net effects of greenhouse gas (GHG) removals from the atmosphere derived from a project’s carbon sequestration activities, procedures for assessing the risk of reversals of sequestered carbon (carbon being returned to the atmosphere), and the proposed approach for addressing long-term monitoring and reporting. The objective of the PFM is to ensure that GHG removals generated by projects are quantified in a complete, consistent, transparent, accurate and conservative manner, and can therefore be reported to the Climate Action Reserve for the issuance of carbon credits (called Climate Reserve Tonnes, CRTs).
